Please note that online sessions will be held between 11:30 AM-18:00 PM GMT+3 and 09:30 AM - 16:00 PM CET.

Date: December 16, 2023

Event Type: Training

Format: 100% online

Topic: METU RÜZGEM Training on “CFD and Performance Simulations of Wind Turbines” and several application demos for CFD, modeling and performance simulations.

Agenda: View the agenda

Overview: Wind energy, being one of the renewable energy sources, is utilized through the use of onshore or offshore wind turbines in wind farms. Examples for the computational analysis of wind turbines are introduced in the previous introductory level workshop for aerodynamic and hydrodynamic analyses of wind turbines, wake models and wind farms. Examples for the computational simulations using open source software are also described. In this second intermediate level training, the demo applications for the Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations using SU2 and OpenFOAM flow solvers for the flow fields around wind turbine airfoils, HAWT and VAWT rotors are presented. Also, for comprehensive modeling and performance analysis of complete wind turbine systems, the simulations using HAMS and OpenFAST codes are presented. The selected computational test cases and how to run these cases on TRUBA HPC infrastructure are presented through demo applications.

Language: English

Duration: 6.5 hours

Target Audience: Academia & industry

Prerequisite(s):  Basic Linux and Aerodynamics/CFD knowledge

Tools, libraries, frameworks used:  SU2, OpenFOAM, HAMS, OpenFAST, Paraview
